Driveway and Street sealing notice

This is the first notice of many that you will receive in the next couple of weeks regarding sealing of our driveways and streets. We are planning on resealing them the week of October 16th (weather, etc. Permitting). You will not be able to park on your driveway for two days and you must stay off the streets completely while we have the work done. We know this will be an inconvenience but think we will all be better off when it's done. More details will follow but we wanted to notify everyone of the pending improvements to the community.

Amazing day at Island Gate

Our first Island Gate beautification day was held today and to say things went perfectly would be an understatement. The weather was poised to be rainy but turned out to be warm and pleasant. We are especially grateful to our 8 neighbors who took time out of there weekend and worked so hard to plant over 100 plants all over the community. Some of the things we planted were 4 white birches, 21 azaleas, 12 andromedas, 12 inkberries, 10 holly plants, 6 day lilies, and 27 kinds of grasses. We improved the pool area, the center island at the entrance, the parking areas and over 30 homes in the community. We also spread grass seed, removed numerous dead trees, trimmed countless trees and bushes and made our community an even nicer place to be. Special thanks to Fran Gordon, Jack McEntee, Karl and Marianne Massey, Walter and Carol Long, Debbie Romano and Eileen Sappah. You all are terrific. The effort of these people is what make this community so special. Even Super Fresh helped out by allowing us to borrow a few shopping carts for the day. Thanks for pitching in Super Fresh.

Things went so well we are planning another beautification day in the spring (we promise not to work so hard next time). So stay tuned and once again thanks so much.

The Pool is now Closed for the season

As of tonight the pool is closed for the season. We hope the pool met your expectations this year and you and your families enjoyed it. We hope to reopen it on the weekend of May 17th, 2012. A special thanks to the pool committee who spent a huge amount of time and effort on making 2011 a great pool season.

Results of the Special Meeting held September 17th

A special meeting of the Island Gate Homeowners Association was held on September 17th.  
The Special Meeting was called to vote, to remove Anne Doyle from the board of trustees. 46 members of our community voted;  44 voted for removal and 2 voted for retention. As a result of the vote, the board is in the process of filling the vacant board seat.  We will keep you informed about a replacement in as timely a manner as possible.

Bring gloves, bring a shovel (if you have them, if not we will have them)
Make our community look great this fall

The community has purchased shrubs, plants and trees to replace some of the dead landscaping in our community.  Please come and help plant them.  In addition, we are planning on adding soil and seed to eroded areas, trim low hanging tree branches and even picking up trash on the outer edges of the community.
The more who come, the more gets done so come on over and make Island Gate look even better.

Last weekend for the pool Sept 17 and 18

As of this evening the daily opening of the pool comes to an end for the season. The pool will reopen at 9 am Saturday the 17th, for the weekend. After next Sunday the pool closes for the season. Although it closes, the good news is we are going to try and open the pool a week earlier next year, we are shooting for May 19th. Given that it will only be 243 days until it reopens.

Unusual activities

With fall approaching it's time to take care of some maintenance items to keep the community looking it's best. Our landscaper will be aerating and over seeding the lawn. The aeration process will dig small amounts of soil up and leave it on the lawn. This may look strange or unsightly but the plugs will dissolve back into the ground. This procedure will allow the new seed to take better and provide a chance for existing grass roots to grow making a healthier lawn. Second we plan on sealing the driveways and the streets this fall. This will require all of our residents to move their cars and possibly park them off the premises for a day or two. While we apologize for this inconvenience it is essential we perform this maintenance to keep our community in good repair. We will inform you ahead of time when and for how long you need to move your car. We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Election Results

The election of members of Island Gate's board was determined at the general meeting tonight. Carol Osten and Frank Cangiarella were re-elected as trustees of Island Gate. They were elected to two year terms as trustees of Island Gate. More than half the community participated. On behalf of the Island Gate board we thank you for your interest in the community.
